Design, Think, Learn:
Initial Teacher Training

University and SCITT sessions

I have worked with the Faculty of Eduation at the University of Cambridge and the CTSN SCITT to deliver a series of D&T sessions as part of their respective courses.  These sessions are specifically designed for trainee teachers to equip them with both subject knowledge and pedagogical strategies to inspire the next generation of primary school pupils.

Through interactive workshops, hands-on demonstrations, and insights into emerging technologies, future teachers gain a comprehensive understanding of current D&T practices - from textiles, CAD and sustainable materials to electronics and iterative design processes.

Beyond technical skills, the sessions emphasise how to foster creativity, problem-solving, and resilience in the classroom. Trainees also explore inclusive teaching methods and curriculum design that reflect modern educational needs.

Embedding these sessions within the ITT courses ensures that new teachers enter the profession with confidence and a strong foundation. Ultimately, this initiative supports the development of high-quality D&T teaching across schools, helping to keep the subject dynamic, engaging, and relevant for all learners.
